Nearly 400 sex offenders were arrested statewide during a sweep aimed at increasing compliance with the state's sex offender law, authorities announced Friday.
Figures for arrests in Washtenaw and Livingston counties were not available Friday, but local police agencies regularly participate in efforts to ensure offenders are following the registration law.
State Police officials said the 40-day sweep from Oct. 1 to Nov. 9 resulted in 397 arrests and 658 requests for arrest warrants. It was the fourth coordinated sex offender sweep.
Officers across the state conducted 6,487 random checks at the homes of registered sex offenders to ensure they're complying with the registration law.
As of Nov. 1, there were 41,942 names on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry.

Great Job Michigan! More states should do the same on a regular basis.
